Unity Party Denounces "Council of Patriots for JNB-JKK" Counter-Protest; urges unity and collective focus on governance and national development
Monrovia, Liberia – July 14, 2025: The Unity Party firmly denounces the unauthorized planned counter-protest by a group known as the "Council of Patriots for JNB-JKK". The Party categorically distances itself from any counter-protest or "Thanksgiving March" claiming to represent our standard-bearer without the express authorization of the Party’s leadership.
While the Unity Party remains committed to upholding the constitutional rights of all Liberians, including peaceful assembly and free speech, we urge all those wanting to protest to prioritize peace, order, and the stability of state over personal egos.
Under two years, the Unity Party government has recorded progress across critical governance sectors. We have seen improvements in security, stable prices of basic commodities, and road connectivity, especially in previously inaccessible areas during the rainy season. The UP government is also making strides in the fight against corruption and enhancing Liberia’s international image, while seeking investment opportunities for job creation through trade and other bilateral engagements.
We must rise above provocation and avoid actions that may lead to violence and contribute instead to our country’s stability and development efforts. Unfortunately, some members on the organizing team of the July 17 protest were here in key leadership positions when the nation’s image was being stained for all the wrong reasons but they chose to remain silent. As a responsible government, we are making no excuses for their excesses. Our government is fully committed to governance reform and the provision of essential social services, as outlined in the government’s ARREST AGENDA FOR INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT (AAID).
The Unity Party calls on all partisans and members of the Rescue Mission to refrain from getting involved or staging any such thing as counter protest or thanksgiving for president Joseph Nyuma Boakai on July 17, 2025.
We thank the national security apparatus for their professionalism and dedicated service to the state. We call on the LNP to continue to uphold the highest standards in law enforcement as they prepare to ensure peaceful assembly of the people while maintaining law and order.
