MCC and PCC Seek Sustainable Solution to Waste Challenges in Greater Monrovia and Paynesville City

The City Governments of Monrovia and Paynesville have commenced the opening of the bidding process for an Integrated Solid Waste Management System and Infrastructure Development for Greater Monrovia and Paynesville city (ISWMSID) respectively.

This initiative aims to enhance waste collection in the two cities, convert waste materials into useful products or energy, and to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents through innovative and international best practices in waste management.

The Process began with the publication of expressions of interest, which saw 11 partners initially responding, demonstrating a wide range of expertise and a clear commitment for the development of the project.

Following a rigorous evaluation, six highly qualified partners were shortlisted.
These six organizations were then given the TOR to develop comprehensive proposals for the ISWMSID, and it is the proposals that were unveiled today July 3,2025 in the Mayor’s Conference room at the Monrovia City Corporation.

Speaking on behalf of Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, during the opening ceremony, the City Manager of the Monrovia City Corporation, Mr. Jones N. Williams, extolled the participating institutions for demonstrating strong interest evidenced by their participation in a crucial initiative, which is vital for the health, environment, and future prosperity of Greater Monrovia and Paynesville.

“Today marks a pivotal step forward in our journey to establish a sustainable and efficient waste management system which will focus on the circular economy by fostering economic opportunities for residents in both cities.”

Mr. Williams expressed confidence that the successful implementation of the Integrated Solid Waste Management System and Infrastructure Development project will present robust and sustainable solutions for the prolonged waste management challenges that the two cities have been tackling.

“We look forward to a transparent and thorough evaluation of all submissions. Our goal is to select the most capable and committed partner to work alongside us in bringing this essential project to fruition,” he intoned.

Meanwhile, representatives from some of the participating firms including, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Carson, GE- Enviro, have lauded the Monrovia City Corporation for the transparent way the corporation is proceeding with the process.

The participating firms are extremely optimistic that the process is being done void of any form of bias.
