For the first time, Liberia is serving as a host country of the US-AFRICOM Logistics Conference.
The conference is being sponsored and hosted by the United States Africa Command, and Co-hosted by the Armed Forces of Liberia, attracting top military leaders and heads of logistics commands of 20 African countries, the African Union, and ECOWAS in attendance.
Commencing with a highly colorful opening ceremony, marked by cultural dances, military salutations and anthems, the Logistics Conference aims to strengthen partnership towards the sustenance of regional peace and stability.
At the strategic level, the Farmington gathering will project daunting logistically challenges faced by West African countries in the wake of regional and sub-regional threats, divulge best practices in tackling them, and fostering logistics coordination.
In her opening statement, Defense Minister Brg Gen (Rtd.) Geraldine Janet George welcomed the delegation on behalf of H.E Joseph N. Boakai and lauded the United States and partners for the continued partnership - "Liberia appreciates the value of partnership, preparedness and shared expertise", remarked Minister George.
She encouraged the delegates to be guided by the principles of unity, innovation, and respect during the course of the conference and beyond.
For his part, the Charge d'Affaires of the US. Embassy near Monrovia, Joseph E. Zadrozny branded the conference as a platform for action, beyond just a meeting of minds.
He emphasized that countering threats can be easily achieved by building stronger regional networks of nations committed to peace.
Also making special remarks, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Maj Gen Davidson F. Forleh described the role of the AFL as Co-host of the conference as a testament of growth, professionalism and interoperability prepared of the country's military.
