
Gbarnga, Bong County (June 23, 2025): Camp Tubman Military Barracks Benefits from Phase II of the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Awareness Campaign
Phase Two of the Sexual and Gender Based-Violence Awareness Program has officially commenced at the Camp Tubman Military Barracks in Gbarnga, Bong County.
During the opening ceremony, Captain Austin Sio Karkon, Commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 21st Engineer Battalion, expressed his delight for the coming in of the Department of Gender and Social Inclusion to the barracks. He warmly welcomed the team and emphasized his hope that the knowledge gained from this program will make soldiers and their families more sensitive to sexual issues, particularly those that are related to domestic violence and its associated abuses.
Mr. Jackson N. Gbanmie, Deputy Director for Gender and Social Inclusion, extended greetings on behalf of Brigadier General Geraldine J. George, Minister of National Defense, and Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
He informed participants that the awareness presentations are designed to share experiences and address gender-based violence issues, including Liberia's rape laws and Sexual, Reproductive Health, and Rights.
Phase Two of the SGBV Awareness Program will cover military barracks in both Bong and Grand Bassa counties.
The Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia prioritize addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and are committed to providing all military personnel and their dependents with relevant education and awareness on this critical issue. The campaign will continue in Grand Bassa County in the coming days.
