LFA President Appears Before LACC Over Alleged Missing Funds

The President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Mustapha Raji, appeared before the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) on Thursday, May 29, 2025, over allegations of fund misappropriation.

The LACC claims the LFA cannot account for $658 million provided by the Liberian government during 2022 and 2023. The funds were meant for building a new LFA headquarters and supporting LFA operations.

Former LFA General Secretary Isaac Montgomery accused Raji of underreporting the project cost during the April 2023 dedication ceremony attended by former President George Weah.

Montgomery said the LFA took a $319,045 loan from GT Bank Liberia to complete the project and claimed Raji’s $1.5 million estimate was misleading. He informed FIFA of the loan in October 2022.

Montgomery, who served from 2019 to 2023, was sued by Raji for libel in December 2023.

Raji has denied any wrongdoing, stating the government did not fund the LFA headquarters or its operations. He said FIFA and CAF funded all construction and operational costs.

The LFA confirmed it has informed both FIFA and CAF and is cooperating with national authorities.
