
Senate Debates Law On Cybercrimes. The Senate is debating a draft law that will prosecute people guilty of cybercrimes. The bill is currently before the Liberian Senate for concurrence.
The Senate in its wisdom has agreed to give the committee additional one month to carryout due diligence on the law.
The due diligence will include the involvement of stakeholders in the IT sector to include; the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, and experts to advice on what’s applicable to Liberia and what’s accepted Internationally in the fight against cybercrimes.
In the bill, the Senate will consider crimes including; disinformation of data, acts to incite violence or damage to properties and the distribution of harmful data messages using the internet.
When passed, a special unit of commission will be established with the sole authority to handle cyber related cases faded through the national budget through the Ministry of Post and telecommunication.
In a related Senate activities for Thursday June 19, 2025, the Senate briefly debated a bill to establish the National Students Cadet of 2025. The debate is at its embryony stage.
Budget for Nimba By-election
Meanwhile the Senate received from the National Elections Commission (NEC) a budget of United States dollars two hundred seventy-six thousand dollars (US$276,000.00) for the conduct of by-election in district #5, Nimba County. The by-election is schedule for August 12, 2025.
The districts host twenty-nine Thousand, eight hundred twenty-three (29,823) registered voters.
