FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 27, 2025 SEAL Commends President Boakai for the Reburial of Former President Doe, Commitment to Development, and Anti-Corruption Efforts

The South-Eastern Alliance of Liberia (SEAL) extends its profound appreciation to His Excellency President Joseph N. Boakai for honoring the memory of the late President Samuel Kanyon Doe and former First Lady Nancy Doe through a dignified state reburial ceremony.

For nearly thirty-five years, successive administrations—including that of former President George Weah, himself a son of the Southeast—failed to grant the late President Doe the honor of a state funeral. President Boakai’s initiative has brought long-overdue national recognition to Liberia’s first indigenous Head of State. SEAL considers this a commendable and reconciliatory gesture of profound national importance.

SEAL also applauds President Boakai for traveling by road into Grand Gedeh County during his recent visit, rather than opting to fly. This decision highlights the progress made in road infrastructure development across the Southeast within just two years of his administration. For decades, poor road connectivity has been a major obstacle in the region. The progress under the ARREST Agenda is gradually liberating citizens from what SEAL describes as “road slavery.”

Furthermore, SEAL commends the Boakai-led administration for its unwavering commitment to fighting corruption. The suspension of four senior government officials—including the Director-General and Deputy Director of LACRA, the head of the Bureau of State-Owned Enterprises, and Director of MCSS, Who are all known allies of the President and long-standing Unity Party partisans—demonstrates an unflinching resolve to uphold transparency and accountability. The investigations of former Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr. Samuel Tweh and others high profiles officials of Government for corruption-related offenses underscore a serious and necessary step toward ensuring that public resources are used for national development rather than personal gain.

SEAL urges all Liberians to support the President’s anti-corruption efforts and to resist shielding corrupt individuals under the pretense of political loyalty. Corruption undermines national progress and deprives citizens of essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

In addition, SEAL expresses its appreciation to President Boakai for appointing an icon of integrity from the Southeast, Hon. Dan Torkamawon Saryee, as Acting Director-General of LACRA. SEAL has full confidence in Hon. Saryee’s ability to advance the ARREST Agenda and champion reforms within the institution.

The SouthEastern -Alliance of Liberia (SEAL) reaffirms its steadfast support for to the leadership that is in the interest of the people of Liberia and the government commitment to good governance, integrity, and national development.

Signed:
The Secretariat
