FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 24, 2025 LIBERTY PARTY NATIONAL YOUTH CONGRESS APPLAUDS LEGISLATURE for PASSAGE OF GROUNDBREAKING DECENTRALIZATION INSTRUMENTS
Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberty Party National Youth Congress (LPNYC) extends its profound commendation to the Honorable House of Representatives for concurring with the Liberian Senate on two monumental legislative instruments that signal a bold shift toward structural reform, participatory governance, and people-centered development.
The concurrence on the ACT ESTABLISHING the SEAPORTS and INLAND PORTS REGULATORY AUTHORITY and the SEAPORT DECENTRALIZATION and MODERNIZATION BILL represents a legislative milestone in the country’s decentralization agenda. The latter effectively dismantles the long-standing centralized oversight of Liberia’s four strategic seaports under the National Port Authority and champions a new paradigm—local autonomy, grassroots empowerment, and bottom-up governance.
This legislative action is not merely administrative—it is revolutionary. It sends a resounding message that the era of hyper-centralization is drawing to a close, and a new political order, anchored in local governance, economic inclusion, and democratic accountability, is taking root.
We urge His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to waste no time in assenting to these bills. By signing them into law, the President will not only demonstrate fidelity to the letter and spirit of decentralization but also reaffirm his government’s commitment to its much-heralded mantra—“ARREST AGENDA.” These instruments, once enacted, will open new frontiers of opportunity for local port communities and institutionalize a governance framework that is responsive, representative, and resilient.
The Liberty Party National Youth Congress also seizes this moment to shower unreserved commendation on the Political Leader of the Liberty Party and President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, for her visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to transformative legislation. Her courageous sponsorship of these bills embodies the Liberty Party’s ideological compass—empowerment through decentralization, governance through inclusion.
Finally, we call on all well-meaning Liberians, across political, regional, and ideological lines, to celebrate the passage of these legislative instruments—not as a partisan trophy, but as a national victory. This is not a win for any individual or party, but a triumph for the Liberian people and the future we collectively envision.
