MoCI New AMA Confirmed: Pledges To Be Team Player The Committee on Commerce & Industry at the Liberian Senate has confirmed Assistant Commerce & Industry Minister for Administration (AMA), Varney M. Sheriff. Mr. Sheriff was confirmed recently after appearing before the committee for confirmation.

During the confirmation hearing, he spoke about how collaboration plays a pivotal role in promoting the vision and mandate of the Ministry.

Mr. Sheriff said the role of Assistant Minister for Administration positions him as the first administrative technician entrusted with the overall administrative and financial management of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, when it comes to providing leadership in a number of key areas.

Appearing before the Senate Committee on Commerce & Industry recently, he named the areas as coordinating the Ministry’s daily operations by ensuring efficiency and compliance; strengthening procurement, logistics, finance, and human resource systems; preparing and monitoring budgets, ensuring internal control and reporting.

In his words, other areas to be taken into consideration include safeguarding public resources, facilitate training, promoting professionalism, and strengthen the welfare of employees, implementing performance monitoring tools, improving coordination and policy execution.
He also pledged to ensure that strategic priorities are aligned with President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda.

In this case, Mr. Sheriff spoke about reform and efficiency by digitizing processes to enhance service delivery, while under the issue of private sector engagement he spoke about an enabling MSME development and investment support. In the same direction, he pledged to the publication of the Ministry’s reports and adherence to open governance as part of transparency and accountability.

“I pledge to uphold integrity in financial and administrative practices and diligence in executing the Ministry's mandate,” he told the Senate Committee on Commerce & Industry during the confirmation hearing.

The confirmation hearing was attended by relatives, friends, well-wishers and members of the Senior Management Team (SMT) at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, including Commerce & Industry Minister, Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh.
