Dr. Towah Commends President Boakai for Reconciliatory Efforts Through State Reburial of former Pres. Doe
Chief Dr. William Deiyan Towah, a distinguished son of Grand Gedeh County and an ECOWAS diplomat, has lauded President Joseph Nyuma Boakai's commendable decision to honor the late President Samuel Kanyon Doe and former First Lady, Madam Nancy Bohn Doe, with a state-sponsored reburial initiative. Dr. Towah praised President Boakai for undertaking a "noble national cause that promises to foster genuine reconciliation, national unity, peace, and development in a nation burdened by a tumultuous past."
In a press statement released over the weekend, Dr. Towah highlighted the profound historical significance of this initiative. He noted that it marks a decisive shift from the inaction of previous administrations in addressing vital issues crucial for the nation's collective healing and progress. "President Boakai has shattered the cycle of indifference," Dr. Towah stated, recognizing the President's willingness to listen to the voices of the people and initiate this state reburial for President Doe, who dedicated a decade of his life to advancing democracy and national development.
Dr. Towah emphasized that "President Boakai has raised the standard for national leadership," branding him as a responsive and compassionate leader deeply invested in the nation's growth. He asserted that the decision to honor both President Doe and the recently deceased First Lady, Madam Nancy Bohn Doe, represents a profound acknowledgment of their significant contributions to the country.
"This demonstration of leadership underscores the importance of recognizing those who have devoted themselves to uplifting our nation," Dr. Towah urged. "It serves as a source of inspiration for current public servants, promoting patriotism, diligence, and commitment to national development. Such exemplary leadership should be emulated."
Furthermore, Dr. Towah extended his appreciation to President Boakai for also planning to honor former President Dr. William Richard Tolbert Jr. with a state reburial, following his tragic death in a 1980 military coup. He noted that these actions provide important closure to tragic events in Liberia’s history and urged all Liberians to pay tribute to these fallen leaders, who significantly influenced different eras of the nation’s journey.
Dr. Towah concluded by calling on all Liberians, especially those from Grand Gedeh County, to fully support President Boakai's initiatives, viewing them as invaluable steps toward transforming Liberia for the better. "Let us rally around his administration to realize the vision he has for our country," he affirmed.
