
Ambassador Levi Demmah Presents Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium
Brussels, Belgium – June 18th, 2025
– Ambassador Levi Demmah today presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium, officially accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Liberia to the Kingdom of Belgium.
The ceremony, held at the Royal Palace in Brussels, marked a significant moment in the longstanding and cordial relations between Liberia and Belgium.
Ambassador Demmah conveyed greetings on behalf of His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, and expressed Liberia’s deep appreciation for Belgium’s early recognition of its sovereignty in 1858—just a decade after the nation declared independence as the first republic on the African continent.
During his remarks, Ambassador Demmah highlighted the robust and enduring partnership between the two nations, particularly in areas of development, humanitarian assistance, and trade. He paid special tribute to Brussels Airlines for its continued service to Liberia, noting its critical role during the Ebola crisis when the airline remained operational and provided vital support in transporting medical personnel and supplies.
“The unwavering support of Brussels Airlines during one of our darkest moments will never be forgotten,” said Ambassador Demmah. “It was a true demonstration of solidarity and courage.”
Ambassador Demmah also acknowledged the growing Liberian diaspora in Belgium and noted the increasing cultural and tourism exchanges between the two countries. “Liberia is fast becoming a sought-after surfing destination, attracting European tourists—including many Belgians—who are discovering the natural beauty and hospitality of our country,” he remarked.
Highlighting economic cooperation, the Ambassador praised Belgian investments in Liberia’s key sectors such as rubber, gold, and diamonds. Companies like the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC) were recognized for their contributions to employment and national development. He further invited Belgian investors to explore opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and mining.
Ambassador Demmah conveyed President Boakai’s strong commitment to strengthening Liberia–Belgium relations and expressed hope for a future State Visit to deepen bilateral cooperation.
“I am honored to serve as a bridge between our nations and remain steadfast in my commitment to promoting peace, prosperity, and mutual respect,” concluded Ambassador Demmah.
The presentation of credentials reaffirms Liberia’s enduring friendship with the Kingdom of Belgium and opens a new chapter of diplomatic engagement aimed at mutual advancement.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Embassy of Liberia. The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including: H.E. Amb. Robert Moncio Robert Wilmot Kpadeh Permanent Representative of the Republic of Liberia to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Paul Wolokollie Tate, Head of Mission, Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ms. Yvonne Chileshe, Officer-in-Charge, representing H.E. the Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS)The President of the Liberian Association in the Benelux and other distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps and the diaspora..
Their presence added significance to the occasion and underscored Liberia's commitment to strong international engagement.
