Breaking News. Tarkpoh Sonkailey is Dead. The five capped, 38 year old, former Liberian international midfielder; John Tarkpoh Sonkailey is dead. The sharp shooter died on Monday in his native Liberia due to illness, report says.

Tarkpoh who spent more than a decade in Indonesia showcasing his talent, last featured for Persijap Jerapara in the Indonesian Super League in 2014.

The bomber came to prominance when he featured for Second Division club Mighty Blue Angels in 2003 where they won the LFA Knock-out crown before moving to Mighty Barrolle in 2003 and to LPRC oilers a year later. He then moved to Indonesia in 2005, joining Persita Ternate.

Tarkpoh was introduced in the second half in Liberia's 3-0 win over Gambia, cancelling a 2-0 first leg deficit to win heavily in the second leg on November 16, 2003 at the ATS to send the red, white and blue outfit to the joint 2006 Afcon and World Cup qualifiers. His last match for the Lone Star was a gruelling 0-0 draw with Equatorial Guinea in a 2008 Afcon qualifier on a wet surface at the ATS.

The long range specialist was a quiet footballer who allowed his football to do his talking and his rise in Liberian football was meteoric and caught the eye of connoisseurs when he scored from a blistering long range shot for his club Blue Angels against LPRC Oilers in the Knock-out competition with goalkeeper Boye Pratt caught wanting.
