CENTAL Hosts one_day Dialogue to promote political Governance and Accountability in District one Grand Bassa County.

A one-day multi-stakeholder dialogue aimed at promoting political governance, transparency, and accountability was held at the Compound One Administrative Building on Monday, July 14, 2025. The event was organized by the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL) as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen good governance across Liberia.

The dialogue brought together a diverse group of participants including youths, women, students, community leaders, and government officials from various sectors of Grand Bassa County.

Giving an overview of the event, Torwon F. Gensee, Program Officer of CENTAL, emphasized the importance of fostering open dialogue between citizens and their leaders to improve public trust and democratic governance.

This initiative is part of our broader effort to ensure citizens are not just observers but active participants in governance, particularly at the county level," Gensee stated.

As part of the program, Clinton A. Saylay, County Service Center Coordinator for Grand Bassa County, provided insights into how citizens can access essential documents and services through the County Service Center. He outlined the types of services available—including birth certificates, business registration, marriage certificates, and permits—and provided a breakdown of the associated fees.

Saylay stressed the importance of using the service center as a central hub for decentralization, bringing government services closer to the people.

Representing the County Council, Prince Gaye, Secretary General, highlighted the role and responsibilities of the County Council in ensuring accountable leadership and community-driven development.

The County Council plays a vital role in reviewing and approving both development and operational budgets. We also monitor the implementation of projects to ensure transparency and quality delivery, Gaye explained.
Equally, we are responsible for facilitating citizen involvement in decision-making processes through public meetings and consultations, in line with Liberia's decentralization policy," he added.

The dialogue featured interactive discussions, questions from citizens, and suggestions on how to improve service delivery, eliminate corruption, and increase transparency in the management of public resources.

Participants praised CENTAL for organizing the event and called for more regular engagements between stakeholders and local government authorities to build a more inclusive and accountable governance structure.

The program is part of CENTAL’s Strengthening Political Accountability in Liberia project, supported by international development partners.
