John N. Nyanti, a key suspect in the high-profile Capitol Building arson case who was previously reported to be at large and outside the country, has been apprehended by state security forces.
Nyanti, who had been reportedly evading capture since the incident, was formally charged by the Liberia National Police in absentia.
He is currently at the Court escorted by Police officers. However, the development has taken a dramatic turn as Nyanti’s family has accused the Liberian government of attempting to coerce him into providing false testimony.
According to the family, state officials allegedly offered Nyanti US$50,000 and a promise of relocation to Europe in exchange for implicating former House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and three lawmakers in the Capitol Building fire.
