The West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), held in Abuja in June 2025, focused on unlocking trade and investment opportunities across the region. Its primary objective was to promote regional economic integration through harmonized trade policies, improved infrastructure financing, and the empowerment of women, youth, and small businesses.
The summit featured high-level discussions, business matchmaking, and investment showcases, all aimed at stimulating inclusive growth and fostering innovation across West Africa.
The 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held in December 2024, centered on addressing political and security challenges in the region, particularly the withdrawal of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso from the bloc. The session reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to democratic governance, regional peace, and integration.
Leaders endorsed transitional frameworks, advanced plans for a common regional currency (the ECO), and strengthened efforts to combat terrorism, ensure food security, and respond to climate change.
The summit also reinforced partnerships with international organizations to support regional stability and development.
