
Minister Nyumalin suspends Chairperson of Council of Chiefs of Nimba County
Sanniquellie, Nimba County, August 8,2025: Internal Affairs Minister Honorable F. Sakila Nyumalin has suspended Paramount Chief Robert Sennah, Chairperson of the County Council of Chiefs of Nimba.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Minister Nyumalin took the action following a hearing into complaints signed by 37 members of the council of Chiefs in the County which is made of 39 Paramount Chiefs. The hearing took place on Friday, August 8,2025 at the Administrative Building in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
Dozens of other Chiefs and other traditional leaders were present during the hearing.
Based on the nature of the 5-Count complaint, the Internal Affairs Minister has requested the National Leadership of the Chiefs to institute a full investigation.
Pending outcome of the full investigation, Paramount Chief Robert Geleh who serves the local council as Vice Chairperson for Peace and Reconciliation will act.
Meanwhile, suspended Chairman Sennah was asked to turn over all government assets in his possession for the Council to the acting Chairperson.
Among other things, Paramount Chief Sennaih was accused by his colleagues for alledgedly discussing cultural and traditional matters on radio unabated, thus bringing the culture to public ridicule. He was also accused of alleged misapplication of funds received on behalf of the council and turning over government motorcycles to his children for their personal use.
Meanwhile, Minister Nyumalin clarified that Chief Sennah was only suspended as Chairperson of the chiefs' Council, but still enjoys the full authority as Paramount Chief of his Chiefdom in the County, the release concluded.
