The Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, welcomed the Regional Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Mr. Gilles Fagninou, during a working visit to the Ministry in Monrovia.

The visit marks a renewed commitment to advancing multilateral cooperation between Liberia and UNICEF, particularly in support of child-centered development programs.

Mr. Fagninou’s mission to Liberia underscores the importance of aligning international partnerships with national priorities that place children and youth at the heart of sustainable development.

In discussions held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Nyei and Regional Director Fagninou explored ways to strengthen collaboration on key areas such as health, education, child protection, and social inclusion.

The talks focused on enhancing Liberia’s engagement with global and regional development frameworks, while ensuring that foreign policy decisions are responsive to the rights and needs of children and adolescents.

Dr. Nyei acknowledged the critical role UNICEF continues to play in supporting Liberia’s development.

Mr. Fagninou praised Liberia’s efforts to place children at the center of its national development agenda and emphasized UNICEF’s ongoing commitment to working with the Government of Liberia.

He further highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in areas such as emergency preparedness, adolescent empowerment, and addressing the challenges facing vulnerable communities.

The visit concluded with mutual commitments to strengthen diplomatic coordination and policy alignment to ensure that Liberia remains a strong advocate for child development on the international stage.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its openness to continued dialogue and joint action with UNICEF and other development partners.
