Liberia Sets 90-Day Deadline for New National Tourism Authority
The Government of Liberia has established the National Tourism Authority of Liberia (NTAoL), mandating it to initiate full-scale operations within a 90-day timeframe.
The newly formed Authority will oversee tourism independently, separate from the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, and is required to establish headquarters, recruit personnel, and secure a budget to promote tourism nationwide.
Historically, tourism had been marginalized under the ministry, thereby limiting growth and investment. The independent NTAoL aims to bolster Liberia’s tourism sector by attracting international partners and investors.
Ambassador Christopher Hayes Onanuga, the Presidential Special Envoy on Tourism, spearheaded the push for this change. He asserts that the Authority marks a new era for Liberia’s cultural and natural heritage.
Tourism is a major global industry and holds strong potential for Liberia’s economy through job creation, foreign exchange, and local business growth. It can also support environmental and heritage preservation.
Over the next 90 days, the NTAoL must take swift action to establish itself and initiate marketing Liberia internationally.
Ambassador Onanuga urges expedited results: "The government has passed the law. Now we must deliver. The world and Liberians are watching."
This move sets Liberia on a path to transform tourism into a key driver of economic growth and global recognition.
